Long day -- short blog

Short blog today... not many observations.

Today was a real teaching day. I arranged for a car to come by 8 so it showed up by 8:20. I got to the classroom by 8:24 (I KNOW I could have walked it in less time than I waited, but I don't know where I'm going! Give it a rest okay? Sheeze!)

I provided a list of Microsoft Office topics for us to choose from and they said they want ALL of them (of course.) So we spent the morning working on Excel and the afternoon on PowerPoint. Tomorrow is a half day so we will do a short time on Outlook and a short time on Word. The group is large -- about 20 students. And of course most of them don't speak English so I'm going computer by computer and showing them what I'm saying. I hope they are actually learning -- I'm trying to help them understand why they are doing what they're doing so that they aren't just going through the motions without any learning happening!

I skipped both of the snacks so I'm a bit more comfortable this evening, but dinner is still out of the question!

So just a few observations today... there aren't any new pictures, I'm afraid.
  • Most of the door knobs I've found are higher than I'm used to.
  • Most of the toilets here flush by push-button
  • Television shows often start at times such as 9:10 and some times when a show ends with time to spare and apparently no commercial time sold -- they play music videos.

  1. I miss you, love the blog though. Maybe you can come home, hang out with me a bunch, and still blog by pretending you're on the other side of the world. Who would know? I love the whole 'teaching to people who don't speak English' challenge. Talk about the Discovery Method!
