Thoughts in the light of day

I'm too frightened to re-read what I wrote last night. I wonder if it will make any sense at all!

There are some things that I've thought of since that I wanted to add.

Music: I had this fantasy that on my way to the hotel I would hear some of the music that I have been streaming for weeks coming over the radio. Instead, the music that I recall was Heart, Neil Diamond, and Lady Gaga. I have yet to find someone who understands what I am looking for when I ask to hear local music.

Hotel lights: They have this very clever system in the hotel rooms. The lights in the room do not work unless you put your hotel card key in a slot near the door. That means that you can never misplace your hotel room key somewhere in the room. (I've had several incidents in the past that involved skipped heartbeats.)

Roads: There are so many potholes! It almost feels like Boston roads. The drivers are very adept at driving around the tire killers.

Pedestrians: The pedestrians here make the students in Harvard square look cautious. They dodge in front of cars on every street and every speed. They walk as though they are going to walk right into the cars. I've seen this kind of behavior in the states, but NEVER like this. It feels like a video game!

Metropolitan: I thought that this area would be in recovery mode. So far, nearly everything I have passed is beautiful and elegant. Apparently I have not seen the poorer sections yet but there is a lot of construction and a lot of commerce.

  2. So glad to find your blog, Jeanne! More pix please! (We thought the lack of Cape Town potholes was because of the lack of ice. Now I think more likely it was the 2010 World Cup.) -Ellen
